Little Kitty or Lilly Cat

This is our Lily Cat or Lily Kitty - whatever suits my fancy as I lovingly talk to her throughout the day. She is the sweetest little kitty ever. No, really - EVER. She loves to lay on her back legs completely outstretched so we will rub her belly. When she desires to be petted she'll come up to our leg, sit and then gently tap us with her paw. She was my mama's kitty until we inherited her about a month ago. (My brother moved home, horrible allergies, yada, yada, yada, we now have Lily.) Her favorite place to...

Our Daily Bread

.... Okay, well... so I should say that I would really like this to be our daily bread .... Carmon's mom has been making homemade bread for over 20 years. She makes hers in the Kitchen-Aid and I have her recipe which I have made hundreds of times. In fact, I cried when I got my Kitchen-Aid for Christmas the second year Carmon and I were married because I was so happy; I wanted to make bread just like her!  Her little loaves are beautiful and so, so yummy! Another recipe for bread that I have is for a much,...

This is our whole wheat bread recipe.  You know the kind - the moist, melt-in-your mouth, perfect, old-fashioned-flavor kind of bread.... the one that calls for fresh ground whole wheat flour.... the kind of bread that has all that healthy stuff - oh and the one that requires kneading. by hand. My Little Snow White

Let's just say that my little SweetPea loves to dress-up. Pretending has got to be one of her talents. The conversations she makes between her little dolls and bears and toys are just so darn cute.Snow White has always been her favorite Disney Princess, and I don't really understand why because she hasn't seen the movie yet. At Disneyland, Snow White was the one she really wanted to see... and the Snow White ride - she would put her head down during the scary scenes (the entire ride), but sit up for all the 'happy parts' (only the beginning and...

4-Year-Old Seamstress

Today marks a note in time; a note in history; a memory forever to be ingrained in my mind.Last night before SweetPea went to sleep, she looked at me and asked, "Mama, can tomorrow be a special day for us?" I nodded my head and smiled - then kissed her goodnight, closed the door and decided many things would have to be postponed.... .....because tomorrow would be the day. The day that she would begin to learn.   "Mommeee ewing (OH-ing)?" This was a common question since she first could talk. I will never forget the time when she was...

Paper Doll Matchy

Paper dolls are so much fun. I like it that SweetPea thinks so, too. She begs me to cut out the paper dolls when the Oliver + S patterns arrive. Before I received the all-in-one paper doll cut-out sheet with all of them on one page, she would have to wait until I actually made the outfit. She was ecstatic when I sat down with her and cut them all out so she could make conversation between "cousins" (as she so corrected me when I told her they were "friends" - the boy and girl) Before she could play with...

Strawberry Shortcake for Preschool

This week is RED week at preschool. And what does my little SweetPea decide she needs to wear to coincide with the week?... none other than her Strawberry Shortcake outfit I made for her Strawberry Shortcake Birthday Party last January. She opted out of the hat (which I probably would have talked her out of anyway). It delighted my heart that she wanted to wear it - and not just wear it for play, but wear it for school!

The Cat

Hubby and I were in the process of getting a Featherweight ready to sell. When I left the room and came back - this is where he was. Our cat has been incredibly enjoyable. Franky or Franky Frank or "Little, Little Franky I call my Pet Kitty" (sung to the tune of 'Widdy Widdy Worky I call my Pet Turkey).  He truly has brought us much laughter. We had no idea how much we would love a cat. I opened SweetPea's blinds this morning and left the room for a second. When I walked past her door again I saw...

Christmas Jammies 2006

Well, I did it. I accomplished the task. I wondered if I would actually complete it, but I did. Despite the busy-ness of the season, despite the last-minute-rush of eBay Christmas listings and client purchases and wrapped for shipment, despite the shopping that needed done, and decorating, etc... Granted, the jammies weren't totally completed until the "second" Christmas Eve we spent as a family, but nonetheless, they turned out darling, and I am quite pleased. I even ventured into new sewing territory by creating ALL felled seams. Now here is the BIG question (attention all sewing gurus): What is the...

Happy New Year 2007

Happy 2007 New Year! ... my 100th post ... This Singer Perpetual Calendar is one of my most favorite gifts. It is complete with all the days, months and numbers. My other highlight gift is the beginnings of my fine china collection... Sweet Pea Chintz by Royal Winton. The pattern is from none other than the 1930s, found in England and Australia (To my English and Australian friends: if you ever find any - LET ME KNOW!) and very rare (expensive), so I will probably just get one piece a year. A teacup and saucer from Hubby had SweetPea give...

Family Christmas Photograph

We spent some time in the mountains a couple weekends ago... and it SNOWED so beautifully. Children had lots of fun playing and sledding. We enjoyed watching them frolick so joyfully. Brought back beautiful memories for me.Anyway, here is the impromptu photograph I think we will use for our Christmas cards this year. MERRY CHRISTMAS... from our family to yours ...

The Singer Crate

The SINGER Manufacturing Company is very much a part of our lives. I ordered this crate off of eBay when a friend linked me to it late one evening (for me to use for display - isn't it phenominal!!!) and it just arrived from the UPS man.You have to know that this photo was not posed entirely. I told the kids to get in the crate (so I could show relative size) and Cowboy leaned over it as if to pose. Then SweetPea had to copy brother, and these are the photos that followed.

All By Himself

So, this is Christian... he really and truly loves to sew. Thinking it would be a short phase, I never thought about actually buying him his own little Singer SewHandy (yes, it's vintage, from the 1940s and REALLY SEWS!). But, after the other day - I will definitely be keeping a 2nd one I had originally intended to sell on eBay. It's a brown one ~ a cowboy color, of course. Anyway, until that one is serviced - he was able to use Sweetpea's black one. (She definitely knows it's hers and loves to show it off even if she's...

Swee'pea

One of the sweetest customers I have ever had sent this to me as a gift "just because". I was honored, thrilled, and overjoyed at such the sweetest thought. She bought one for me and one for our Swee'pea. And the color green? I ADORE it! This, my friends, is my most favorite-savorite color in the whole wide world. The other ironic thing... we call our Sweet Pea, or pronounce it, I should say, "Swee'pea" - JUST like the shirt and sometimes even quickly three times in a row! I seriously will probably have to save this shirt forever. Thank...

A Mother's Secret Wish

This vintage advertisement (given to me as a sweet surprise from an old friend) couldn't be anymore true today... These photos were taken last fall, but Sweetpea hasn't changed a bit when it comes to "Sewing - Just Like Mommy".

Mother's Day

Here we are ~ Me, Carmon, Christian & Ruthie No, I did not sew my dress, but yes, I did sew my daughter's reversible dress... rick rack all the way around - oh, so darling!. The back of it (in reverse form) is shown here. I loved the underside fabric so much I bought more so I could make myself something at some point.
