Throat plates

Q: Were British-made machines fitted with metric-measure graduated stitch plates?

A: Nope. There's a popular misconception in the USA that Britain used metric measurements. The Euro fanatics are trying to force them on us now but in Featherweight days we were still firmly using inches, feet and miles.

Q: Can a later graduated stitchplate be fitted to my earlier machine?

A: Yes, but please keep hold of the original -- you might want to sell the machine eventually and the new owner could value originality over ease of use. Try to find an original plate. I've had reports of some reproduction plates not fitting but you should be OK if you buy from the folk mentioned on the Parts supply page.
