Tension - upper Q: The tension doesn't release when I raise the presser foot. What's up doc? A: Assuming that this worked correctly before and you haven't dismantled the assembly, the problem is likely to be as simple as a screw working loose. Remove the face plate. At the very bottom on the head is the rocker arm which activates the tension resease. If the pivot screw has loosened, this will restrict or even prevent the release of the tension.
Q: Can the numbered tension dial be fitted to earlier machines? A: Yes, but please keep hold of the original -- you might want to sell the machine eventually and the new owner could value originality over ease of use.
