Foot controllers Q: I've seen Featherweights with the button controllers and others with full-width versions -- which is correct? A: Black 221 and 222 machines used the button-type controller but the white/green 221s had a hard wired (no plug and socket) full-width controller. Q: My foot controller gets a little warm -- is this OK? A: Warm is OK -- hot is not. Controllers will warm during use -- especially if sewing at less than full speed. Controllers should not heat up when not in use but for safety's sake always unplug your machine when leaving it for any length of time. Q: My controller is more like a switch -- I've only got off and full speed. Can anything be done? A:
Yes, the controllers have an adjustment to ensure that the carbon buttons
do their job before the centre rod of the controller bridges the contacts
to give a straight-through supply and full speed. Not a job I'd recommend
for the home mechanic. E-mail your query/contribution
