Dating

Q: How can I find out when my Featherweight was made?

A: You can't really but you can get close. Singer will tell you what they call the birthdate but this is actually only the day on which a large series of numbers would be released from the head office to the various factories.

You can get this by phone from 1-800 4SINGER if you live in the USA. The number doesn't work outside of America but if you are in this position you can e-mail me and I'll get the data for you.

The infomation from Singer leaves a lot to be desired and is certainly not 100 percent accurate.

There a rough guide to serial numbers by year elsewhere on this web site.

Q: Are machines from certain years worth more than others?

A: Not in my book—unless the machine carries a special badge such as a 1951 Centennial
