Belts Q: Are the new "toothed" plastic belts better for my machine? A: I'm an originality freak so I don't use them but yes, they are efficient and probably better than the only new black belts now available which are a little too stiff to comfortably follow the contour of the small motor pulley
Q: Are new white belts available for the white/green machines? A: Sadly not. There's an off-white plastic version on the market which is efficient but there's no way you'd mistake it for the real thing. I always advise folk with original white belts to tuck them away and use a black variety on their machines for everyday sewing
Q: How tight should my belt bethere's no real information in the manual? A: The answer to this one is as loose as possible without it slipping. A too tight belt simply robs the motor of power. The belt should actually grab the pulleys' vee-shaped sidesnot the base of the pulley groove. Once a belt is so worn that it bottoms in the pulley groove it needs over-tightening to get the machine to run without the belt slipping. |
