FINAL update

The end of the road

I’ve enjoyed selling the very best available Featherweights for over 15 years.
Sadly it all has to end.
Two reasons.

  1. My motor specialist, and ex-Singer man with the equipment he bought from the factory when it closed, is now in his 90s and, understandably, is finding it tough to do the difficult armature and field-coil rewinding necessary to properly recondition a motor.
  2. I’m not going to lower my standards and it’s becoming near impossible to find sufficient first-class machines to sustain the business.

To all those customers who supported me over the years (many became close friends), my thanks. It’s been a blast.
I’ll continue until the few remaining machine are gone and then probably sell the vast stock of spares that have accumulated over the years. I'll also try to source specially requested machines.

With www.singer-featherweight.com at the top of every internet search engine, I’ve already had a number of interesting offers for the site.  Be assured that if the name continues it will be in the hands of someone who shares my love of these fantastic machines and who will maintain current standards

I aim to stick around the various digests, help with queries wherever I can and continue the life-time backup promised to my customers.

My final update which should include Centennials, Standard machines and 222 Freearms will go live here on October 15.

Here’s a machine with a strange affliction – don’t worry it’s not contagious.
I’m guessing that at some time this model has been left near a brightly lit window during a heat wave for it’s only at a certain angle that one can see a light crazing to the paintwork.
Don’t worry, we’re not talking about a possible thread-snagging situation - in fact you can’t even feel the marks.
Not sure if the above a plus or a minus, but certainly a plus is the condition of the classic decals which are totally complete without a sign of wear.
There’s prominent scratch on the bed to the right of the machine but, other than that, we have far fewer of the inevitable light marks normally found.
And don’t worry about that ugly plastic orange belt. It will, of course, be replaced during the machine’s extensive workshop time.
Good, solid, strong box with zero odor.
Machine comes with a range of attachments/feet and a packet of Schmetz needles.

Fully cleaned inside and out, serviced and
sew tested before leaving the workshop. Electrically tested for your safety. Pictures are of the actual machine. Any bright marks are from the flash - all flaws are always described in full.
Price includes comprehensive insured air shipping to your door
This machine. as with all other Featherweights I sell, comes with three vital pieces of special documentation.
1) A certificate giving Singer's official statement of manufacturing date.
2) A guarantee that the machine contains no reproduction parts.
3) A dated certificate of electrical safety
.

Here’s a late 221 with the paperclip-style decals and check out the build dat -- one for the romantics....
Paintwork on this is superb with only a minimum of light marks to indicate previous use. But there is slight wear to just one line of the front decal.
Chrome, of course, is perfect, and check out the original Singer graduated stitch plate – claimed by many to be a great aid to accurate seaming.

This machine just misses a solid 9 condition status because of slight thinning to over an inch of the front decal in front of the needle plate.
Otherwise, those early-style decals are totally complete, the chrome is perfect and the paint has a great loss with just the inevitable light marks on the base.
And please remember all my prices include shipping by FedEx’s premier next-day service.

A great late-condition machine benefitting from the correct-for-year original graduated stitch plate.
The paintwork is superb with a deep black gloss.
The only downside is a number of very small marks to the rear of the bed, probably where the controller has been carelessly stored and a small section of decal wear at the front.
It’s a great, honest machine.

Superb early-style, classic decals on this fine Featherweight.
It's marked down a little on condition because of a few  light marks on the base.
Don't worry, none, extends through the tough protective layer into the rich, black paintwork beneath.
I've just noticed, the machine as shown is fitted with an incorrect white belt -- a high-class German belt which I use on all my machines, will be fitted during the machine's workshop time.
And please remember all my prices include shipping by FedEx’s premier next-day service.

Don’t be put off by the condition number I’ve given this machine.
It’s really quite attractive.
It doesn’t have that deep rich glow normally associated with Featherweights.
But the paintwork is great, with only the lightest of marks on the bed.
The early-style decals are fine all over the machine apart from a small 2-inch section where part of the decal has thinned at the front of the bed.
And this machine comes with a big bonus.
It has been retro fitted with the rarest of all the floral face plates, that was originally supplied with the very first Featherweights to leave the factory.
Good, solid, strong original box with zero odor.

Near-perfect late-style “paperclip” decals on this fine Featherweight - just the slightest of thinning on one line at the front of the bed.
We do have, perhaps, slightly more than the usual inevitable light pin marks affecting the outer protective layer, so I’ve marked the machine’s condition down accordingly.
It’s one for the active seamstress and has the advantage of Singer’s super-accurate graduated stitch plate to aid perfect seaming

Here’s a machine with a little bit of history.
It must be one of the earliest with the paperclip design, normally only found on later machines.
Don’t worry, it certainly hasn’t been re-painted – I wouldn’t touch it if it had.
The decals are great with just the slightest suggestion of thinning to one single line at the front the bed.
There are perhaps a few more pin marks to the base than I like to see and I have marked the condition and price down accordingly.
It’s a great machine and highly recommended.
None of the blemishes, of course, go through the tough, protective outer layer into the paintwork itself.
Good solid, strong, original box with zero odor.
Machine comes with a full range of attachments/feet, the a modern thermal bound  full-size handbook and a packet of Schmetz needles.

A superb survivor -- those classic-style decals are totally complete and unworn except for the smallest area  -- less than a quarter of an inch where -- they have lightly thinned.
Paintwork has that great jet black gloss with just the inevitable marks on the base and one match-head size flaw to the protective lacquer on the fold-up extension table.
Perfect chrome, of course
