Repair your own sewing machine

"Hundreds of sewing machine users are tricked every year into buying new machines

"No wonder people have such an abhorrence for sewing machine shops and their repairers"

Let me tell you about Bert Robertshaw.
Back in 1913 this cloth-capped blunt northerner was a man with a mission.
His cause was to put unscrupulous sewing machine dealers out of business
How best to rescue the housewives from the clutches of these tyrants?
Easy. He wrote a book

With no pretext to literary skill, our Bert laboured to produce a volume which the lay man could use to repair his own machines
And what a good job he made of it. With 36 pages and 11 super-clear line drawings he dealt with all the regular repairs and maintenance.
I was so impressed with the job he made that I've decided to reprint it and make it available to present day collectors of treadle and hand-crank machines.
Being written by Bert , with the amateur repairer in mind, there's no technical gobbledegook – just plain language from a plain speaking man
It deals with Family and Medium machines, vibrating shuttles, oscillating shuttles, centre bobbin, rotary hook models – in fact, virtually every style of machine available from the 1880s to the 1930s.
Bert will tell you how to set the shuttle and needles, deal with breaking needles (11 suggestions), handle skipping stitches, broken threads, irregular feed, isolated loops etc
Unfortunately the book was in very sad condition when discovered and countless man hours of professional scanning and restoration were necessary to make the reprint possible
But now, at last it's ready , laser-printed on top quality card, all thermal bound with protective outer sheets.
The book is available now with delivery guaranteed in time for Christmas.
Enjoy it over the holiday and raise a glass with me to Bert Robertshaw – the peoples' champion.
